All the service stations sell unleaded petrol, but in time, in two or three years time, there will be no super petrol sold any more, so the cars need to be converted to unleaded petrol which is better for environment. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org

We buy most of the cars in Australia use unleaded petrol. Some of the older cars still use super petrol which use lend, but the Australian government is trying to encourage people to buy cars which use unleaded petrol, because that’s much better for the environment, so unleaded petrol is cheaper than leaded petrol and unleaded petrol is more readily available.

  Ok, bye, bye.

For many of the products we use, we are able to recycle. This is the recycling symbol and this symbol is on many of the products we use. We recycle plastic. We recycle cardboard. We recycle tin and in our home we have two bins… one side for recycling, like plastic and here, we put all the recycling things in this side and we put rubbish in this side. This is not for recycling.

Hello, again. Today I’m going to tell you about our service station here in Australia. In Australia it’s called a service station or a petrol station.

So that’s what happens with the rubbish here in Australia. I think it’s a very good idea to have recycling, because it’s very good for the environment.

  Thank you very much.

The general wastes are the recycling goes into the two bins that are on the footpath beside the road. The yellow bin, the bin with the yellow lid is the recycling bin and the bin on the other side with the black lid is for general rubbish. The bins are emptied the general rubbish is emptied every week, every Thursday.

Happy and have a good day.

Good morning everyone, I’m going to tell you about a typical of Australia breakfast this morning. Every morning, Ron and I cook breakfast together. I usually squeeze the orange juice and Ron cooks the bacon and egg and we have the fresh bread as well.

Ok, this is a special crossing for the school children go to across the road. The children wait at the yellow line, until Deidre’s ready and Deidre goes out … into the middle road. She says, “stop”, blows the whistle and now we can cross the road. We can cross the road.

Hello, again, I’m Marjie. Good day! I am Ron. I am going to talk to you today about twist top, bottle tops.

And after that, we’re going to have some beautiful fresh bread, which we have made during the night. We will eat that, with some jam, some peanut butter, some honey, some marmalade lots of choices.

20 years ago in Australia, we had to use a bottle top opener like this to open a bottle of beer, but now we just twist, twist the lid and it will come off very easily, twist, and it comes off. ????§? There you go. You can have a drink. Put it in here. Keep’s it cold. That’s ok.Beautiful. Cheers! ) 12530-12530.org ecfan.org

12530-12530.org ecfan.org

Then we will have a cup of tea or coffee to finish off. Ok

First, we have some cereal which we have little milk. We have my some freshly squeezed orange juice this morning. It’s very delicious, very nice.

Then have some bacon, bacon and egg, which Ron has cooked for us this morning.

I’m going to tell about recycling and how we deal with our rubbish here in Australia.

Chinese Sturgeon

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Chinese Sturgeon is a kind of large fresh water and a special habitat of migratory fish. They are found in the Yangtze River. They will go to live in the sea when they have power to get the food by themselves. They need about 10 years to mature. After 10 years, they will go back to Yangtze River to spawn from July to August each year. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com They will go to live in the sea and return to the Yangtze River when the next July comes. They do that year after year.

The Chinese Sturgeon is the earliest Sturgeon in the world. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com It appeared 200 million years ago. However, they still only live in the China Yangtze River. It can truly be said, they are living fossil.

The Yangtze River is the only place that the Chinese Sturgeon will go to spawn. People from other countries used to capture the Chinese Sturgeon to grow in their rivers. However, the Chinese Sturgeon still went black to the Yangtze River to spawn. The length of the fish is about 200 to 500 centimeters (6 to 15 feet long). 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com The female Chinese Sturgeon is about 172 to 300 kilogram and the male Chinese Sturgeon is about 40 to 120 kilograms. The largest Chinese Sturgeon in the world is 550 kilogram. Though, the Chinese Sturgeon is large in size, they only like to eat the small fish and shrimp.

There is a lot of Chinese Sturgeon living happily in the sea. It’s a very valuable fish. The skin of Chinese Sturgeon can be make into shoes and bags. People eat its flesh as food. People sell the eggs as expensive caviar. Also, people use the fish to treat cancer.

In 1983, China began to protect the Chinese Sturgeon in many ways. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com They made laws to stop people from fishing the Chinese Sturgeon. The fishermen and the scientists couldn’t catch the Chinese Sturgeon any more. China began to educate the important of the Chinese Sturgeon. They taught the young children to adults. They also built protected area for the Chinese Sturgeon to live. They had methods to allow Chinese Sturgeon to go back to the Yangtze River every year. They made stamps of cartoon Chinese Sturgeon to make people care about this fish and protect with all their power. The Chinese people also built Chinese Sturgeon museum to educate everyone about this fish.

Good news:

The Chinese Sturgeon is already out of the endangered species.

From the pictures we can see, the Chinese Sturgeon was seriously over-fished. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com The dirty water made the Chinese Sturgeon died in a huge amount. Also, after this dam (Gezhouba) was built, the Chinese sturgeon had no place to spawn and less water to live. The population of Chinese Sturgeon became less and less and became endangered species.

What a special animal! We must protect the Chinese Sturgeon in the word forever. The Chinese Sturgeon museums should open free for all people to learn and to know more about the Chinese Sturgeon. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com I learned many things after I finish the project, I am happy to know about the Chinese Sturgeon. I learned not only about protecting the Chinese Sturgeon, but also the importance of protecting all animals. I also learned when people work together; we can save the animals even when they are endangered.

How to Sell Your Story to Publishers

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Making a living exclusively as a novelist or freelance writer is the dream of millions of people around the world, yet only a handful of people are able to realize this dream. The reason is that many novice writers simply don’t know what it takes to be a professional writer. However, if you can learn the skills and techniques used by successful authors you too can start making a good living as a writer.

Although this article seems seldom useful to me in the angle of making a living, for a professional writer is really not my dream. However,I actually enjoy writing,as one of my hoppies. In addition,to some extent,it is a good composition,in this hand, only can I do is to set it an example.Hope one day I am able to realize the dream of writing such a good composition.God bless me.hehe.

Know Your Market

The first thing that you need to learn about when entering the professional writer’s market is what publishers are looking for. Simply having a good story idea isn’t enough to make a story sale. To make a sale you have understand your market niche and you need to understand what publishers are looking for. You also need to stay on top of writing trends and keep your material fresh. You don’t want to submit an article or story for publication that examines a topic that has been covered from every conceivable angle. Publishers want material that appeals to the current tastes of readers, but that also presents a unique perspective of the topic.12530-12530.org

Always Put Your Best Foot Forward

In addition to submitting a grammatical gem to publishers, you also need to produce material that is worth reading. Most novice writers think that everything that they write is worth publishing, and for the most part this may be true. However, you need to realize that not everything that you write is going to be a pearl of wisdom. To help you to weed out questionable compositions you should ask a friend or colleague to read the piece and give you their candid opinion. By getting a second opinion about your composition you will be able to determine what pieces need further revisions, what pieces should be scrapped, and what pieces are ready for submission. This filtering system will also help you to establish yourself as a quality writer with publishers because they will only be exposed to your best writing. 12530-12530.org

Follow Directions

The final method for improving your chances of being published is to read submission instructions provided by publishers carefully. Every publishing house and magazine has its own unique set of submission rules. If you don’t want your submission thrown away without being reviewed then you need to follow these rules to the last letter. Make sure that you understand what submission methods the publisher accepts, what format your material needs to have, and to whom you need to submit your work to.

One common mistake that novice writers make is not editing their submissions. Publishers expect that the material that they receive for consideration will be perfectly formatted and composed. They don’t have the time to correct your spelling mistakes and grammar errors, nor do they have the time to coach you to a publishable copy. If you want to make consistent sales, your work needs to be formatted properly, be free of spelling errors, and be grammatically correct. If you are not a good editor then you need to partner with someone who is. This partnership will help improve your sales volume and profit margin.12530-12530.org

Sedans (Jiaozi)

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

The sedan or sedanchair (Jiaozi), a traditional vehicle of transportation carried by bearers, was called at the beginning jianyu (shoulder carriage), being a carriage that travelled on human shoulders. Jiaozi is its comparatively modern name.

There was yet another type of sedans for hire to the common people for use on weddings. They were called Huajiao (flowery sedan) or Xijiao (happiness sedan). The deluxe model of this type was covered by bright-coloured silks embroidered with gaudy designs of good luck and even decorated with sparkling gems. The run-of-the-mill model was also bedecked with colourful silk ribbons. In feudal times a bride was not to be seen by outsiders, so there was an elaborate “double-sedan” with a small one inside the outer one so that the bride could get into (or out of) the inner sedan indoors and then be carried into the outer sedan without exposing herself to public view.

Sedanchairs for the ministers and lower officials varied in grandeur with their ranks. In all cases, an official sedan out in the street was heralded by the beating of gongs to clear the way and surrounded by a number of attendants. Common people meeting such a procession must keep quiet and step aside. The higher the official, the greater the number of followers and sedan bearers. The latter might vary from two for a petty official to eight for a very eminent personage. The emperor himself might have as many as sixteen carriers.12530-12530.org ecfan.org

In old times, sedans fell into two major categories: the Guanjiao (official sedan) and the Minjiao (private sedan). Those of the former type were used by the royal family and government officials, and they varied in elaborateness according to the status of the person carried inside, following strict rules laid down for different levels of the hierarchy.

Private sedans were of simple make, yet they were owned only by the landed gentry or urban rich. Built of wood or bamboo, they could be carried either on flat roads or along mountain paths. Some of the self-pampered potbellies inside, like the officials, were also accompanied by bodyguards walking by the side of the sedans.12530-12530.org ecfan.org

Wedding sedanchairs continued to be in vogue for some time in certain regions after the founding of New China in 1949. Nowadays young people prefer the motorized sedan for their weddings, and the sedanchair has been relegated to the realm of

Even for the emperor himself, he was to sit in palanquins or sedanchairs of different grades on different occasions: the ceremonial palanquin to go to a formal court of audience, the sedanchair when he made rounds of inspection inside the Forbidden City, the light sedan for hunts and excursions outside the capital, and finally the casual litter, a spare sedan accompanying him on his trips, into which he might want to change at any moment. For his everyday use in the palace, it was usually the casual litter. Then the furnishings also differed with the seasons: the warm sedan for winter and the cool type for summer. The two sedanchairs now on display in the Hall of Complete Harmony (Zhonghedian) of the Forbidden City are the casual litters used by the emperor for everyday purposes.12530-12530.org ecfan.org

the problem of miscommunication

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

In the theme, passenger comes from Malaysia, just arrives New Zealand for one week, he does not know where the maze is, so he asks bus driver, but bus driver cannot understand what is he talking about because his pronunciation, he has to spell maze to make sure bus driver understand it. Another miscommunication occur when the bus driver says “left “and “ten”, passenger think they are “lift” and “tin” because the Kiwi accent. We show the miscommunication problem by pronunciation through our group presentation.

Our group presentation is about the problem of miscommunication in New Zealand. As New Zealand is a multi-culture country, miscommunication is common. Our group presentation is base on the miscommunication by pronunciation in a conversation between a passenger and a bus driver. Bus driver and passenger cannot understand each other because they come from different country.

In conclusion, as New Zealand is multi-culture country, there are lots of immigrants,12530. because English is not their first language, miscommunication is common. To avoid this situation, I think we should study English more deeply, because it is the language we use everyday, we need it to communicate, to live. Through this group presentation, I understand more about team work, everyone should try his best to prepare the group presentation, because the success comes only through hard work.

Our group members and their jobs: I introduce the group presentation, Taro is bus driver (he is the leader), Alice is passenger, Hashem analyze the role play, and lucyl will draw the conclusion. I do not think our group presentation went very well, everyone was nervous, I speak too fast, and Hashem read half of his analyze because he forget of it, however, fan,I think our role play is perfect, and conclusion is not too bad. The main problem of our group is we don not have enough meetings. 12530.We have two weeks to prepare the group presentation, but we all have the mid term test for Biology in the first week, we are busy with it, so we do not have any meeting during the first week. Another problem is one of our group members, Ahshem, he only came the meeting once and without doing his work, so we cannot practice the role play completely, we have to practice the role play individually; I think Taro should notice Ahshem more early and do his work, so we can practice the presentation more. To improve this group presentation, we need more meetings to practice, and pay more attention to it.

The Origin of Christmas

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Although the exact date of the birth of Jesus nearly 2,000 years ago is not known, the calendar on the supposed date divides all time into B.C. (Before Christ )and A.D. ( a Latin phrase, Anno Domini, “in the year of our Lord.”)For the first 300 years, Jesus’ birthday was celebrated on different dates. Finally, in the year 354, church leaders chose December 25 as his birthday.

Mary was engaged to be married to Joseph, a carpenter, but before they came together, she was found to be with child. Because Joseph, her husband, was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Christmas Day-December 25-which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ, the founder of the Christian religion, is the biggest and best-loved holiday in the United States.

According to the Bible, the holy book of Christians, God decided to allow his only son, Jesus Christ, to be born to a human mother and live on earth so that people could understand God better and learn to love God and each other more. “Christmas”- meaning “celebration of Christ “- honors the time when Jesus was born to a young Jewish woman Mary.

History of Mother′s Day

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Later, in the 1600’s, in England there was an annual observance called “Mothering Sunday.” It was celebrated during June, on the fourth Sunday. On Mothering Sunday, the servants, who generally lived with their employers, were encouraged to return home and honor their mothers. It was traditional for them to bring a special cake along to celebrate the occasion.

Jarvis and others began a letter-writing campaign to ministers, businessmen, and politicians in their quest to establish a national Mother’s Day. They were successful. President Woodrow Wilson, in 1914, made the official announcement proclaiming Mother’s Day a national observance that was to be held each year on the 2nd Sunday of May. http://12530-12530.org

Although it wasn’t celebrated in the U.S. until 1907, there were days honoring mothers even in the days of ancient Greece. In those days, however, it was Rhea, the Mother of the gods that was given honor.

In the U.S. Mothers’ Day is a holiday celebrated on second Sunday in May. It is a day when children honor their mothers with cards, gifts, and flowers. First observance in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1907, it is based on suggestions by Julia Ward Howe in 1872 and by Anna Jarvis in 1907.

In the U.S., in 1907 Ana Jarvis, from Philadelphia, began a campaign to establish a national Mother’s Day. Jarvis persuaded her mother’s church in Grafton, West Virginia to celebrate Mother’s Day on the second anniversary of her mother’s death, the 2nd Sunday of May. The next year Mother’s Day was also celebrated in Philadelphia. http://12530-12530.org

Many other countries of the world celebrate their own Mother’s Day at different times throughout the year. Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Australia, and Belgium celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May, as in the U.S. http://12530-12530.org

April Fool’s Day-History, Traditions and more

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Pranks performed on April Fool’s Day range from the simple, (such as saying, “Your shoe’s untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate’s alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, “April Fool!”

April Fool’s Day is a “for-fun-only” observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their “significant other” out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It’s simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool!

The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. Prior to that year, the new year was celebrated for eight days, beginning on March 25. The celebration culminated on April 1. With the reform of the calendar under Charles IX, the Gregorian Calendar was introduced, and New Year’s Day was moved to January 1. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com

However, communications being what they were in the days when news traveled by foot, many people did not receive the news for several years. Others, the more obstinate crowd, refused to accept the new calendar and continued to celebrate the new year on April 1. These backward folk were labeled as “fools” by the general populace. They were subject to some ridicule, and were often sent on “fools errands” or were made the butt of other practical jokes. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com

Mexico’s counterpart of April Fool’s Day is actually observed on December 28. Originally, the day was a sad remembrance of the slaughter of the innocent children by King Herod. It eventually evolved into a lighter commemoration involving pranks and trickery.

Practical jokes are a common practice on April Fool’s Day. Sometimes, elaborate practical jokes are played on friends or relatives that last the entire day. The news media even gets involved. For instance, a British short film once shown on April Fool’s Day was a fairly detailed documentary about “spaghetti farmers” and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com

Unlike most of the other nonfoolish holidays, the history of April Fool’s Day, sometimes called All Fool’s Day, is not totally clear. There really wasn’t a “first April Fool’s Day” that can be pinpointed on the calendar. Some believe it sort of evolved simultaneously in several cultures at the same time, from celebrations involving the first day of spring.

In Scotland, for example, April Fool’s Day is actually celebrated for two days. The second day is devoted to pranks involving the posterior region of the body. It is called Taily Day. The origin of the “kick me” sign can be traced to this observance.

This harassment evolved, over time, into a tradition of prank-playing on the first day of April. The tradition eventually spread to England and Scotland in the eighteenth century. It was later introduced to the American colonies of both the English and French. April Fool’s Day thus developed into an international fun fest, so to speak, with different nationalities specializing in their own brand of humor at the expense of their friends and families. 12530-12530.org ecfan.org x731.com
